What about Wifies' theory that teleporting pulls you through a pocket dimension with different space (like the 8:1 nether ratio) and that endermites are parasites that latch onto you if you do it too much - proof of that is that you have a small chance of bringing one with you. The endermen would actually be the ancient builders (notice the eye colour) that could only eat chorus fruit which teleported them and as a result got infected by the parasites. When the player looks into their eyes, it stirs some ancient memory that the parasite immediately clamps down on. It's got some holes, but it fits in better with the whole "ancient builders running from the wither" narrative that other people seem to be siding with

I think the mob vote is a problem, caused by Mojang themselves. It's not like you're choosing the mob that will be added, but more like the one that won't be fully deleted from devs concepts. And it sucks. I can understand people complaining about the mob they voted for hasn't won, because they feel that their opinion and community inside of the game is not valuable; THEY are not valuable for the devs.
